Could Meta Update the MetaOS of the Oculus 2 Home called Loft?

Subject: Assistance Required - Settings Scenery Update for Meta Quest Loft Home Screen

Dear Meta Quest Support Team,

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding my recent experience with Meta Quest 2 Settings menu being updated during the Meta Oculus Quest 3 release. When I purchased the Meta Oculus Quest 2 in 2020 from the official Australian website, the MetaOS was functional aesthetically pleasing and useful. One feature the Meta Oculus 2 had was in the settings menu.

A virtual home environment feature with choices.

Virtual Home Environments included:

  • Studio
  • Mountain Study
  • Bubbles
  • Crystal Atrium
  • Classic Home
  • Space Station
  • Cyber City
  • Ryokan Retreat
  • Quest Dome
  • Winter Lodge
  • Desert Terrace
  • Polar Village
  • Futurescape
  • Abstraction
  • Paradiso

And more with a download.

Issue Details:

  • Description of the problem: Upon the Meta Oculus Quest 3 release the MetaOS settings menu was updated to a brand-new interface which in of itself is not bad thing. But when the useful virtual environment feature with choices, was removed, I begin to feel anixitey and depression. I begang having a recurrence of psychotic symptoms (hearing voices) from my medically diagnosed disability in Australia a mental illness known as schizophrenia.
  • Steps I have already taken: I have researched this features articles deeply and there only way to have scenery changes with Meta Lodge home screen on the Oculus 2 and that is upgrade to an oculus 3.
  • There is only one way known to me to have a meditative scenery home environment on Oculus 2 and that is with Steam VR and Steam Backgrounds.

This issue has caused me a frustration, and also a small mental health breakdown. This is because I would often use that virtual environment feature, that I really enjoyed using for a mediative purpose, a virtual room environment in Virtual Reality. A getaway from my on real life environment at home. I have since with phycology counselling and support from professionals better overcome my mental health weaknesses and deficiencies with mental health. I now embrace my real life small home apartment more and value real life as valuable and worth as much as any virtual home environment.

I do believe all that I needed during the MetaOS upgrade process to Oculus 3 was a transfer of the Virtual Environment settings to the new improved Operating System for all those paying customers who valued such a wonderful feature.

Requested Resolution:

I kindly request the resolution should be a partially funded replacement upgrade to the Meta Oculus 3 from Oculus 2 with a return to manufacturer.
Another suggestion is for Meta to update/upgrade MetaOS with virtual environments included in the settings menu for Oculus 2 customers.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Kind regards,

Craig S. Richardson

  • Hi Craig, thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like the change to the Quest 2 interface affected you a lot, and I'm glad you've had support while working through that.

Just so expectations are clear: this community forum isn't an official Meta support channel, and no one here can restore removed features or authorize hardware upgrades. Meta also doesn't offer discounted or replacement headsets due to software changes on older devices.

If you want to submit feedback about the virtual environments or ask Meta directly, the best path is through the official support site or the in‑headset feedback tool. That's the only place where your request will actually reach the product team.

Hope that helps you get your concerns to the right place.

PS. if you want to view some of the old-style custom environments on your headset, there is still a way:

I was one of the first people to create Custom Homes for Quest – and now I’ve found a way to keep them alive. : r/OculusQuest

No, an upgrade to Quest 3 won't help at all.

It won't bring back the old Quest homes environments. They are gone. You'll have exactly the same immersive home/loft scenerie on Q3 as you have onQ2.

The only way that you still can enjoy those environments is to DOWNGRADE to a Quest 1.

The Quest 1 stopped getting version updates - I think, it's on v50 - so, it never got the immersive home, but has still the lovely Quest  homes from your list.😊

You can still find Quest 1 on ebay or so.
