Database design / implementation for gaming / mmorpg's

First off, let me say that I am getting severely annoyed at the forums going to the !@#% log in page in the middle of me typing. Would this please get fixed already! I am running on Chrome.

With that being said, now, for my actual post. I am experienced with using MySQL / InnoDB, combined with PHP and javascript for implementing data into websites, however, I am very interesting in using a database for gaming. Does anyone know of a class or something else where they focus on the design and implementation of databases for use in gaming?

Gaming, afaik, has a very different set of requirements than using one for something like a website. Any help in this area would be appreciated!

    I found one paper that focused on databases for MMORPG's, however, it only told me what I already knew... that the servers had to be high performance, load information into memory, and perform writes into memory in increments. Nothing about proper optimizations, nor was it "educational".. just informative.
