Developers boykotting Oculus Rift

Several VR developers stopped supporting the Oculus Rift because of Palmer Luckey's support for Donald Trump

Developers, not consumers.

If you add that to the issues the ramshackle shop does have anyway, the disappointing screen quality and the lawsuit about stolen tech, I wonder if this will make the Rift the worst choice on the market for VR in the long run.
Right now, the only thing going for Oculus is the fact that they have Facebook money. And even that is attached to Facebook strings ...

Also it's weird how nobody cared about that kind of thing before - or if they did it didn't have any impact.

  • lol.

"disapponting screen quality"  the CV1 is the best VR display on the market? There's literally nothing better available to consumers at this time.

"lawsuit about stolen tech" seriously? Are you talking about the stuff that Carmack developed IN HIS FREE TIME that had nothing to do with his work at his former company, or are you talking about the stuff a Valve employee ignorantly claimed  was stolen from them, not realizing that they had recieved that tech from Oculus in the first place, and was later publicly reprimanded by Valve higher-ups?

"Developers boycotting Oculus Rift"  the only one of which anyone has ever heard of is the guy who created Fez, who has a reputation for being an unbelievably pretentious douchbag.. Apart from him, it's just college kids who have never actually released a game before; Anyone can pick up Unity and claim to be a game developer these days.. when one of them makes a game that is actually noteworthy, maybe their political choices will be newsworthy.

This scandal is weak, and attempts to rile people up over it has so far only resulted in closed threads.  Come back when you have something that involves the Oculus company itself, instead of the off-the-clock actions of their naive young founder (who doesn't even have that much say in the company these days, what with selling it to an outspoken liberal and all?)
  • The best place for discussing the current issues would be the reddit megathread. This forum has a no politics rule (this is the third thread of yours that we've locked in the last 24 hours, please stop before we need more drastic action).
