  • Not that I know of but Virtual Reality by Howard Rheingold, written 25 years ago at the dawn of V.R, has 400 dense pages of history, speculation and exploration of VR. Available used on Amazon.
  • Infinite Reality, somewhat recent but before the current wave, is also really good.

The "Sword of Damocles" demonstration was created as part of a proposed "electronic office" presentation and White Paper. The following demonstration of "Military applications for Synthetic Environments" was also turned into a working paper. As the resulting company (Evans & Sutherland - for whom I use to work) was fixated on military projects and the SoD system ended up becoming the 'Nigh Trainer' system, then most of these reports were treated as confidential.

There are a number of interviews with Dr. Sutherland about the SoD and his doctoral dissertation must be online, and there is also a detailed interview with him on stage at the Training & Simulation Convention from the 1980's - its been a while but not sure if it was recorded or just transcribed.
