does anyone else’s quest pro only charge when the charger is oriented in one direction?

i dont have to hold the charger up to fix it in a position. ive exclusively charged it with the wire pointed forwards and now that’s the only way ive been able to charge it. im scared to see if i can get a current to flow by putting the charger in the port flipped the other way (perpendicular kink guiding the wire towards battery pack). same is true for other wires as well.

Ideas?

cleaning the port helped a lot (soft bristled gum-picks) but the problem is the port is loose

  • I've not had this problem with my Pro but have had it in the past with one of my Quest 2's... after I tripped on the cable while it was plugged in. In my case I think it was a damaged USB port on the headset as it had the same problem with all my cables. Luckily it still charged and connected ok with the cable plugged in one way.

i've never yanked this one. i think the heat and the humidity melted and dissolved away the glue like it does the material underneath the facial interface

  • GastonYamantaka do use any strain relief on the cable? with the Pro I've always used the little Velcro strap that comes with the official link cable... securing the cable towards the rear of the headset arm, so that there's no movement or strain on the port. Initially I've also used one of those long balloons as a tie-wrap as that was the only thing I had to hand... worked pretty well.

The problem is that over time, there's a lot of head movement that you don't get with other USB plug-ins. That's if you use the headset with wired link rather than wireless.

If you have a loose port now, the strain-relief could still help a lot to avoid connector movement during use.

the port shouldn’t need all of that. I've got apple products from ten years ago still with fully functional ports that were subjected to wire tug from egregious angles for much longer than this

  • I think a VR headset is subjected to way more connector strain and movement activity than anything else I've ever owned so that's why the official cable has the strap.

If you do standing VR, that's pretty much the whole weight of the cable, even without any movement. Most of my VR with the Pro is seated for simming and PC FPS's and I've lost count of the number of times I turn around in the swivel chair and the cable snagged on something, usually one of the seat roller-wheels (I use my Quest 3 untethered for games that have too much movement for wired play).

Something that should also be considered is the cable plug type.... straight on plugs are probably the worse as they maximize the bending of the port but may unplug easily if snagged. 90 degree plugs are better in my view,  90 deg down type plugs relieve the weight induced twisting but may damage the port if snagged as they won't easily unplug if pulled on. 90 deg sideways plugs will also likely damage the port if snagged but allow for the additional strap which I'd recommend to anyone, I consider myself careful with my headsets but stuff happens, especially when immersed in VR and you forget there's a cable unlike other devices where you usually have the cable in sight all the time.

I get that you think it shouldn't be needed but other people may read this and I just want them to avoid possible issues.
