Extending the Rift DK2 Cables?

Has anybody already tried extending the cables for the two USB and one HDMI plugs on the Rift DK2? I was wondering if it's possible to do without negatively impacting the experience of using the Rift as I want to make the cord come down from a hook in my ceiling to my head so that I can spin around in my chair without getting wrapped in cable. As it is, one full spin would probably rip my computer off it's stand.

  • Cables longer than 10 feet typically won't work. People have tried, with varying levels of success.

Which means to achieve the goal of having a proper standing environment is, you either build a high shelf on the wall to store your components & line the cable along the ceiling (gives you 5'-6' away from the wall to play with), or create a shelf on the ceiling itself which would give you the option to set it wherever you want in the room. This is a great concept, but I'm hoping that the ultimate goal of VR will remove the necessity of that kind of rigging. Best of luck to you. Personally, I'm waiting for the day I can get myself a nice 6DO motion chair that I can sync up with VR & Elite Dangerous.

**Correction** you are looking for a seated position with the cord to hang from the ceiling, best idea I can come up with here would be to set a simple plant hook on a piece of fishing string to hold the cables for you. You could even set a few to manage the cables down to your source. Again, best of luck.
