Feature suggetion... Guardian View (One-Click Secure Streaming)
Hi,
As a parent I enjoy seeing my child experience the Mewta Quest 3 he received for Christmas / Birthday. When he is playing Roblox or other games sit in close proximity working while passivly monitoring his online activity. Here is my idea polished by AI :)
The Problem
While Meta Quest supports casting and screen sharing, the current flow requires multiple manual steps—opening apps, navigating menus, and configuring settings—at exactly the moment when time and attention are most constrained. For parents, this often means missing the window to observe or guide a child’s experience before the headset is already in use. The result is reduced visibility, weaker trust, and a higher cognitive load on parents who are trying to manage safety and appropriateness in real time.
Proposed Feature: Guardian View (One-Click Secure Streaming)
Introduce a Guardian View feature that enables a parent or guardian to initiate a live stream of a child’s headset from a browser or companion app with a single action.
- Each child account is assigned a secure, permission-based URL or control panel accessible only to approved guardians. (Or more secure method)
- From any browser (desktop, tablet, or phone), the parent can click “Start View” to immediately begin streaming the headset’s display—no headset interaction required.
- The stream activates automatically when the headset is worn or wakes, ensuring visibility from the very start of a session.
- All connections are encrypted, session-based, and logged, with clear indicators in-headset that a guardian is viewing.
Parental Experience Management
This feature directly supports parents in managing their children’s VR experience by:
- Enabling instant oversight without disrupting the child or scrambling through setup steps.
- Allowing parents to verify content, social interactions, and comfort in real time.
- Reinforcing trust and safety by making supervision effortless rather than optional.
- Encouraging healthier usage, as children know oversight is consistent and transparent.
I feel:
Reducing friction is the fastest way to increase adoption of safety features. By turning a multi-step, time-sensitive process into a single click, Meta Quest positions itself as a parent-friendly VR platform—one that acknowledges real household dynamics and supports guardians as active partners in their children’s immersive experiences.
