HTC have decided to keep the system for Chinese sale while they evaluate the state of the "standalone" market in the West - i.e., let others test the water and see if there is a scope for them. Now that there are solid rumors about the OculusGO release and pricing I think we may see HTC (using some of the new Google money) release the system here in time for E3 (imho).
Well nothing wrong with the suck-it-&-see approach.
I think if a headset doesn't have tracked controls, design it from the get-go for the best quality seated/standing, movie/simple app type experience. Keep it lightweight and paired down to the max but with the best screen possible.
...or go for tracked controls and aim for the more serious roaming experience.
I just have doubts about anything that falls between the two.
