Gorilla Tag hearing other’s voices

Gorilla Tag please do not have the headset on default to hear other people voices this is so dangerous. It took me a long time to figure out how to mute other people’s voices. My son is 7 yrs old and he should not be exposed to this. This need to be a choice that parents should make.

  • Hi kingjace2013 🙂

You are right....your son shouldn't be exposed to this........

......your son shouldn't even be in that game/headset, especially not with an 13+ account.

On child accounts people voices are monkey sound by default. Child accounts are for children from 10-12, children younger than 10 years old are not allowed to have a Meta account.

Children must be at least 10 years old to create a Meta account with their parents' help.

Why you need to have the right Meta account for your age to use Meta Quest

If you allow your son to play on your account, you risk having your account suspended and losing your purchases.

  • I can understand why the voice chat caught you off guard - Gorilla Tag's social environment can be intense even for older kids. It's worth knowing, though, that Meta has strict age rules for Quest accounts. Even with a parent‑managed setup, the youngest allowed users are 10–12 years old. A 7‑year‑old is below the minimum age the platform is designed or legally permitted to support.

Because of that, if a child uses a regular 13+ account, Meta treats it as a teen account and enables features like open voice chat by default. There's also an important risk to be aware of: if Meta detects that an account holder is under the required age, they will suspend the account, and any purchased apps tied to it can be lost permanently.

If you want to keep using the headset, the safest approach is to make sure the account type matches Meta's age requirements so you can use the proper parental controls. But it may also be worth considering whether waiting until he's old enough for a supported account will give him a safer and more appropriate experience overall.

And just to add, we do not know how long term VR use affects eye development in people younger than 13 years old! Err on the side of caution, follow the guidelines of no younger than 13 years old, and practice close adult supervision.
