Home use CCNA Kit / Lab
Mmm.. networking. Such fun. No, really, networking is pretty fun :p
So looking over some different options, and here is what I'm thinking:
Access Server: 2509
Routers:
- 1841: I see these alot in the field, so there is that. I know I could go with a lower priced one, but I'd rather practice on what I see in the field, if that makes sense.
- 2821: This is an interesting choice.. decided on this due to the gigabit ethernet capability. This would also double as my home network/production router.
Switches:
- 3560: Layer 3 switch that supports PVLAN, QOS.. gigabit switch, supports POE, and is also a switch that I often see in the field. This one would also double as my home network / production switch.
- 3550: Layer 3 switch, doesn't include the features above, but is a bit cheaper.
It also seems that my 12U rack that I just purchased on impulse is not going to be large enough for my equipment. Not when the above devices are all 2U devices, my computer which is in a 4U case, and the fact that I am also planning on getting 2x 2U NAS devices, and a rackmounted battery backup, and I have a 2U power strip installed. Total I think.. 24U? I'd like to go one up, but iirc, the next step up from a 24U rack is a 48U rack, which would not fit in my house O.o.
Oh yea.. I also need to install a couple of WAPs once I get this lab built >.<
So, anyways.. yea. Just rambling. Don't mind me.
edit: There is a 36U enclosure, but good lord, almost $1k USD
