How can I use my oculus rift (to play any game?)

Well I just got my oculus rift today. (and as soon as I plugged it in) I noticed it acts like a 3rd display/monitor.

How ever its somewhat distorted (as a monitor) and you're not able to just use it as a display (which I so hope you can in the future) because it'd be great to use.

Does anyone know how I can just use it as a display for my games? I don't care if I can look around or not (I'm just wanting to use my oculus rift like a normal monitor) because I'm getting really, really use to them.

There are some games I'd like to play like Counter Strike Source, Slender : The arrival, Call of Duty Ghosts, and Crysis 3) ect.

Does anyone know how this is possible? Like I said "I'm just wanting to use it as a display" it doesn't matter if I can look around in the world or not (which I don't do most of the time when I'm sitting down)

  • To play games that were not built specifically for the rift, you have to use injection driver software, such as Vorpx, Tridef, or Vireio Perception. The first two are gonna cost you some cash. the main reason it wont work without them is because youre lookin at one screen in the rift, but it's cut in half so you only see half of it with each eye, in order to view it correctly, you'll have to have the same (ish) image drawn twice, side by side on the monitor or else it'll just hurt your brain.
  • The Rift does not replace a normal monitor, it will only work with apps that have support for it. I believe Slender has native Rift support, those other games are not compatible. There are also some 3rd party apps that may allow you to use the Windows desktop and play 2D apps/games, but this is not officially supported.

If those don't help, I know several games have mods you could use to immitate the Rift, which actually work very well. I don't know the exact link, but you can find Minecraft's somewhere on PlanetMinecraft, and Skyrim on the SkyrimNexus. As a warning, you may never go outside again if you find the Skyrim one.
