I would like to see access to more accessibility features

🧠 Feature Request: More Accessibility Features (Speech-to-Text, Meta AI Tools) for Meta Quest in the UK πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Hi Meta Team and fellow Quest users,

I’m a big fan of the Meta Quest platform and love how immersive the VR experience can be β€” but I’ve noticed a major area that needs attention: accessibility, especially here in the UK.

Currently, features like speech-to-text, voice control, and other Meta AI-powered tools are either not available or only partially supported in certain regions outside the U.S. This creates a frustrating experience for users who rely on these features for accessibility or just to interact more easily in VR.

:exclamation_mark: Key Issues:

  • Speech-to-text and real-time captions are not widely available across apps or the system UI.
  • Voice commands and dictation are tied to Meta AI, which is not yet fully rolled out in the UK.
  • There’s no system-wide support for users with hearing, speech, or mobility challenges.

πŸ’‘ Feature Requests:

  1. Enable speech-to-text and real-time captions in VR β€” both in apps and for system-level interactions.
  2. Expand Meta AI features globally, starting with full support in the UK.
  3. Provide better voice navigation and control that works independently of Meta AI, with offline/local support where possible.
  4. Develop a dedicated accessibility menu for quick access to features like narration, magnification, and voice tools.

Meta has a real opportunity to make the Quest platform more inclusive, more interactive, and more empowering for users everywhere β€” not just in the U.S.

I’d love to hear from others:

  • Are you experiencing similar issues with accessibility in your region?
  • What features would make a big difference in your experience?

Let’s make sure VR is for everyone.

Thanks for listening!

  • Hi, I only recently found out that Meta Quest has a screen reader and yet it appears to only be an experimental feature with precious little documentation.  I hope that the shortcomings you mention in this post can be addressed as the possibilities of bringing accessibility to a VR platform are super intriguing to me.  I was hoping to find more posts about what is currently possible to do with a screen reader on Meta Quest, however yours is the only post I've found thus far.  Hopefully more will see your post and will start to get interested in the potential accessibility implications of accessibility on VR.
