  • interesting, thanks for sharing.

discovered this from that article: http://www.artificialbrains.com/darpa-synapse-program

    immediately bookmarked it!

i have heard about the SyNAPSE project before but i never really paid much attention to it. looks like they are getting close to the final phase being completed sometime between 2014 and 2017.

very interesting read I got a bunch of neat buzzwords from the SyNAPSE project description. been collecting them for awhile so I can spice up my dialog a bit.

definitely added "brainwall" and "neurosynaptic core" to that list

also i might make a reference to "Dawn - the Blue Gene/P supercomputer" and Compass in my screenplay

    thanks!
  • lets not forget quantum computing or rather quantum annealing computing...

just heard about this the other day. it appears as if there's a whole consortium of companies throwing funding at it too; including Google NASA CIA et all

of course right now its not very practical as you would have to build/arrange or entangle (whatever) the qubits specifically to solve a certain problem. also its only got like 512 qubits that are bit noisy so it wont be running Shors Algorithm anytime soon. plus if you want one its going to cost you at least 10 mill.

    but still...

when a quantum computer is capable of running Shors Algorithm. extremely large prime numbers will not be adequate enough to encrypt anything..

    or so they say...
