Ideas: HP Lovecraft VR Experience? God Helmet?

I'm just gonna blurb out ideas I have that might make for cool VR projects in the hopes that someone will want to do it.

1. Adopting some short Lovecraftian stories might be really awesome, even if it's just a theme-park ride kind of experience, not as full blown games. I get chills just reading those books, I might need a poop bucket with OR.

The God/Koren Helmet or Shatki helmet from Michael Persinger, Todd Murphy et al is one of the only well known, well researched, commercially accessible neural stimulation technology that produces dramatic psychological and/or paranormal effects.

If you're not familiar with it, go ahead and google/youtube some of those names.

I'm actually as much afraid as excited about the prospect of combining a robust VR game with that kind of neural stimulation.

  • I think a Virtual Cthulu simulator would be pretty wicked. So you could look and see your tentacles and claws and run around terrorizing little fishing villages feeding off of souls and screams until you became powerful enough to summon your dark hordes and go all out on the mainland. Of course there would have to be some cool ocean battles between yourself and the Elder Gods, or perhaps some Giant Squid?

    :D
  • A ski simulator could be fun, you're wearing a ski mask anyway
  • Great minds do think alike. I'm exploring the movie/theatre potential of OR, starting with a From Beyond adaptation. OR & the pineal = beware.

  • I may or may not be working on something Lovecraftian. Until I get my Rift I can't tell the effect of rendering creepy things in only one eye in mirrors and such though, so I've kind of put it on hold til I get mine next month.

If we could get rift support for garrys mod, there are multiplayer "theatre servers" already up and running. Its all youtube based, I think it would be awesome with OR.

    Great lovecraft idea

I own a website http://www.madebylovecraft.com it gets thousands of lovecraft fans visiting perhaps we could get some of those fans posting ideas :)

I already visit too many sites daily, but if you get some good ideas, definitely post them here. I might be going a little over the top with the game I'm working on, but I won't be able to tell until I get my Rift (this week finally, maybe? in processing)... it's not even a horror game unless you look in the wrong spots, go down the wrong alleys, or notice that one creepy guy that always seems to be in every scene.
