Late to this V.81 party, but hoping I didn't join it at all

Like the title says, I am rather late to this V.81 update (I only got it today, and immediately learned that it's already 4 months old).

Honestly, I have nothing good to say about the update. I guess all that I'm going to say about has already been addressed here, but just still need to vent this out.

The worst thing about the whole update is the decreased battery life. I've never had my Quest 2 (which I've only had for 2y 1m) battery drain this fast. Only reading through the patch notes to V.81 drained battery by 16%, just because there's this new "immersive home" running on the background all the time. After 15 minutes in FitXR, my battery was already down to 63%. After 15 minutes!! Before this update, I was able to do a whole 40 minute workout on FitXR and have still over 50% of battery left. The battery drain is truly insane after this update. Also never has the home screen and menus been as laggy as they were after the update. Things are loading so slowly, some menu buttons requires to be pressed twice before they are registered.. It's just horrible.

The second worst thing is the already mentioned immersive home. I don't understand why Meta doesn't give customers the ability to choose with these "Horizon Worlds/Central" things. Why force them on people who don't want anything to do with them?? Is their Metaverse plans doing so bad that their only option is to force people into these things? I personally don't want anything to do with them, and I know I am not the only one with this opinion. So not only is this absolutely useless garbage being forced onto people, they also do it in a way that makes their VR sets work worse.

Hindsight is always 20/20 as they say, and if this is the way these things truly are going, boy am I glad that I cancelled making my Quest 3 purchase and removed it from shopping cart while doing other shopping. At this rate, I'll rather get Pico 4. I don't use standalone features that much (mainly use for wireless PCVR), and thankfully I haven't spent that much money in meta store for apps.

I truly hope that they get all the performance and battery drain fixed on V.83, when I finally will be able to get that update (probably need to see again after 4 months).

    Hi Caradrash 🙂

directly after the update I noticed a faster battery draining -  headset battery and the external battery -  for one or two days. Then it went back to the normal draining time.

I don't say, it's the same for you.... but maybe wait a few days to see what happens.🤷‍♀️

  • Very late to the party. Most of us are on v83 by now. Sounds like you need a new battery.

I highly doubt that I would need a new battery. Because the battery drain started yesterday when I got the V.81 update. The day before yesterday I was still on the V.79.xxx and did that 40 minute workout and still had over 50% battery left. So, the only thing that changed overnight was software update after which the battery drain started.

Try fully powering off and on the headset. The regular restart after a software update doesn't always reset the headset properly.

  • I've been on V81 and V83 and I'd like to mention that for some reason the battery drain for the first day was really bad. After a few days (im assuming after a few headset restarts) it got better but no where near the levels of what I would get before the forced home environment. I personally like to watch lots of movies and shows and not being able to go to a simple environment to be able to watch longer is REALLY annoying. I'd say I'm down ~25% battery life from the older OS versions.

Headstraps with batteries are a thing 🤷‍♂️.

Are you really trying to justify an unnessasary ~25% battery loss change?

I could just plug my headset into the wall while I watch movies aswell if I wanted to but that is not the solution? I want a light headset that I can chill and watch a 2-hour movie without my headset dying, WHICH I COULD PREVIOUSLY FYI.

  • I think it's a fact that the newer OS versions (V81+) drain more. The fact I need to go out of my way and spend 100$ on a headstrap or get a long cable to watch movies in bed is crazy. I'm not whining for no reason. I could get an acceptable amount of usage previously, and these new versions are causing unnecessary battery drainage. That's all.
