LCD that could help find keyboard, mouse, or controller

At a push of a button, Samsung can make their LCD transparent. This was shown at I believe CES over a year ago. Now only if the size and latency was perfect. Imagine finding your keyboard or mouse without having to lift up the Oculus to avoid knocking over your drink. Almost happened to me blindly searching for my keyboard :(

Another feature that would be nice would be touch. If a touch sensor was added to the front of the Oculus, you could zoom into objects, select items, pause/play a movie, etc. just by touching the front of the Oculus (where most people paste eyes on). This would help by not needing a mouse or keyboard for some specific applications like movie players or art programs.

    Its in the future, there is no need to make this more expensive so you would want to push a button to see trough the thing, I mean gamers should all know by heart the whole keyboard :P and if you dont it does not take away anything if u peek the keys underneath.

    As a touch typist at 100+ wpm I disagree.
    I fumble way too much in the rift and have considered putting dots of glue on the home keys.
    Anything that is a barrier to a Rift purchaser is BAD, while things that make adoption easier is GOOD, assuming a low additional cost.

    Come to your senses, how on earth will a seetrough LCD fix anything? You game and you cant see the keys so you have to push some sort of button to make the LCD seetrough.. might as well just raise it a bit and look for yourself :roll:

    Why not just add 2 cameras for connecting to the outer world? It will be much cheaper.

    I don't think many get my post. I don't mean for them to purchase a screen that costs twice as much as Sharp's 8K UHD TV. This would be good for the future. The developers said it themselves, they want an easy way to quickly see your physical surroundings while using the Oculus. I'm not too lazy to lift up the Oculus to have a quick look at my desk. This would be great for people in environments such as a development studio. Right now you need to lift up the Oculus to grab your controller, and again when switching devices to test with and again to see who walked into the room and again so you don't knock things over... The "up, down, up, down..." could get very annoying.

    Can't believe they still have to push buttons and hold their own cups...

    It's one thing when just using a mouse and w a s d. However games like Skyrim with several hot keys and lots of switching during combat make raising it impractical.

    Both the TV and notebook have nothing to cover the back... So why would we need a transparent top shield?

    Take a rift lens you are not using, put it against your eye and look around. You will notice only a blurry mess. It can't work.

    I highly doubt the current lenses will be the same for the 1080p or greater version. Yes you will still need lenses for distortion, but far less would be needed with a higher resolution and pixel density. The current lenses can view objects clearly if you are up close. This is why you have a limit to how far you can adjust the LCD distance. With the HD lenses, I am sure you will see a physical object before smacking the Rift into it. The point is to see your close surroundings not the distant mountain view (unless you are in game ;) )...
