Looking for a good 1080p HD camera for unboxing videos?!

So far I've been browsing at the Coolpix P520 and Nikon COOLPIX L620

My budget is about $250 but I am willing to stretch out to $350 if the camera is at the right price!

I plan on getting a much better camera when I can afford it. But right now I'm just trying to get the equipment to help me become a beginner YouTuber. I also Plan on not only using this camera for just unboxing videos. But I plan on using it forward's my Photography hobby. (I need the camera to be not pixelated/distorted) when zoomed in.

    GoPro?

Lots of cheaper DSLR's support 1080p video now. Even regular camera phones are really becoming quite good.

GoPro doesn't take pictures =_= (You'd have to record then take still frame images) I've actually thought about purchasing a Go Pro for unboxing videos but it just wouldn't do.

edit : I also thought about getting an iPod 5G (because it can run at 1080p) but when you go full screen the video resolution starts getting blurry.
  • I agree with Lane, if you stretch your budget a little into the 450$ range, you can buy something like the Canon T3i or the Nikon D5100, which are great SLR for your hobby of photography, plus record video at 1080p30, and have an external 3.5mm mic jack.
You can achieve professional quality if you just add a tie-clip microphone (they are very cheap and can isolate your voice very well from ambient noise) and a basic tripod (that is needed because focusing with a DSL can be challenging while doing a video, but it can be rewarding since you seem to be passionate about photography)
  • Or go with a micro four thirds based system. They are mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses that are smaller than a dslr, but come close to the quality. I recently got a Panasonic Lumix GX7 as an every day carry camera, it's video features beat my Canon 5D Mark III (the lumix has 60fps 1080p video, focus peeking and autofocus during video. The 5D lacks all those).

Both Olympus and Panasonic Lumix micro four thirds cameras can use each others lenses.

There's cheap micro four thirds like the Olympus E-PM2 (16MP) with 14-42mm lens and 40-150mm lens for only $399 at Adorama, or a Panasonic Lumix GF2 (12.1MP) with 14-42mm lens for $299 (also Adorama).

Although I don't know what the cheaper ones are like for video. My Lumix GX7 was around $1200, so I'd expect it's features to be a bit better than a $299 version. :)
The lower models tend to list 1080i for video, although I think in the case of the GF2 that's only for 60fps, the 30fps mode may be 1080p. I'm not sure though.

Be warned, if you get an interchangeable lens camera like a dslr or micro four thirds, you will probably get GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). It won't be long before you are starting to think up excuses to buy things like a thousand dollar super fisheye lens. :)

The GoPro does take pictures. You can set it to continuous pictures at x seconds or click the button to take one as traditionally done.

I can vouch that GoPro's are pretty great to use. I love using it when skiing.
