I'm moving from the east to the west coast of Canada. Google tells me it's a 71 hour journey, covering more than 6700km across one of the most amazing countries on the planet. To those of you south of the border, it's like driving from Bangor Maine to Seattle, only with Lake Superior in the way. So yeah, it's a long drive.What's excellent is that I'm doing this trip on Canada's 150th birthday.The not so excellent part is that I've done this drive once already - in the opposite direction 4 years ago.Movers come tomorrow and we start the drive on Friday. Apologies if I'm away from the forum for the next few weeks. Atmos73 has happily agreed to fill in with more positive messages and corrections of everyone's spelling for me.Edit: sorry, this was meant for off-topic. Back online for a day or two. We made it across the country with a few hiccups. The car had a misfiring cylinder so we had to limp it in to Thunder Bay. We also had a leaky fuel filler nozzle which turned out to have a recall from Nissan (so that was free at least!). Weather in central Canada was HOT and the Okanagan Valley is going to hit 38 degrees the next few days. Luckily our new house is about 5-10 degrees lower on average.One more travel day on Aug 2nd until we're at our destination. We take possession on the 4th so setup of the man-cave begins in earnest next week.

It was definitely a neat thing to do on Canada 150. Having said that, give yourself a LOT of time to do it or you'll end up spending a massive amount of time driving and very little actually exploring this amazing country.

I had 13 days booked off work. I spent a few days visiting my family and we've been in BC visiting her family for the past two. Tomorrow we're on our final travel day. Google said it was 72 hours of driving (not counting stops for fuel and food). We booked hotels the day before because were were never really sure whether the car would hold up, or if we'd hit really good (or bad) weather and go farther (or less far) on a given day. We had a 7 hour driving day and we also had a 15 hour day (including stops). I'm pretty used to long trips and long days with my job, but we also had a dog with us. She rides like a champ, but there's still a breaking point where you don't want to sit in a car all day.Tomorrow we should arrive at our destination and the next few days are signing final papers and taking possession. I should be excited but at this point I'm just tired and want it all done. I'll save excitement for that first night we have our bed assembled and our espresso machine plugged in. :)

Why drive all the way? Explain, is it just for the fun of it or is there some practical reason for doing so?

He's got to get his car there one way or another--typically you drive it yourself, or you pay someone else to drive it (plus their rail/airfare to get back home).

I imagine it's also quite an experience, though, seeing the country from one end to the other.

Oh ok makes sense. I just assumed you would use a haulage firm to do all that for you and you'd jet across just before it arrives and chalk it up to cost of moving. I just searched and from coast to coast in USA prices range from $700 - $1200 depending on the type of vehicle.

My move is actually a paid move due to my job, for but for a coast to coast move many people choose to drive instead of flying for the reasons nalex stated. Plus it's an adventure (despite minor setbacks or car troubles).

I'd love to take some time and drive across Canada some day. I've only driven as far west as Thunder Bay (from Toronto), and east as far as Montreal.
