My Kinect V2 moan.

I'm just here so I can moan about the problems I've had with getting KinectV2 for Windows to work.

I keep reading about people here using them and I'm so frustrated because I've had weeks of problems trying to get mine to work. I understand quite well about the USB3 controllers compatibility issue, but that hasn't helped.

I bought a used V2 from Amazon. Tried it on 6 different computers, didn't work on any. Spent 3 weeks doing the install/uninstall, etc.

Then I bought a Resnas USB 3 PCI which is stated to work with it. It didn't.

Then I sent the PC and the Kinect to a computer shop and they had it for a week and tried it on many many machines. No joy. (yes, they billed me of course)

So I bough a new laptop because it was Intel. That didn't work.

Microsoft told me it was broken, but the person had no idea what a V2 for windows even was.

In the end, I decided to give up and buy a new one. And guess what - that doesn't work on 8 PC's that I've tried.

Next step is to go and buy a Microsoft Surface Pro 3, because it's supposed to work on that.

So far, this £200 Kinect V2 is proving very irritating and extremely expensive. It is absolutely vital for a customer of mine.

That's it, my rant is over and I feel a bit better now :|

  • I've used my Kinect 2 on a surface pro 2. WOrked fine, although a little slow.
So far mine has worked on every pc I've tried, as long as it's running windows 8 (which is a kinect 2 requirement). Well, that's actually only my laptop and surface pro 2, so not exactly a large sample size. :)

My Kinect 1 had heaps of trouble working on different computers, many wouldn't accept it. I think it was usb related, not sure.

I was going to buy an Intel Realsense 3D camera (Kinect but smaller and cheaper), but I then discovered:
    - only works on windows 8
    - only works on intel haswell cpus
    - short range (only a few feet, it's made for face/hand tracking when sitting at a pc)
    - made by Creative (who are on my boycott list)
    - the photo refocusing stuff is actually part of a separate product using the same name.
