The pic is nice, but I notice some areas that could use more work.
It takes more than a simple tutorial to make something like that. It takes practice and an understanding of form, light and shadow.
In this case, the artist started with a simple photo then drew the characters in, using a realistic shading technique. They made sure to replicate the shadows thrown from the tree branches above and used the real shadows to realistically render the fake ones.
