As always it looks great on paper or in a vid as here ....
Still the biggest obstacle is offcourse always what hardware users have available as you must know.

I bought myself a planet from a website. But the damn tricksters dont have the technology to get me there.

I am interested the rate of KS projects for wide FOV's that are appearing. Linked to this mornings HTC announcement its interesting how far we have come since 2016.
  • Pimax is further into development (we assume) but this has the better presentation video so which should we go for?Well, without at least understanding the real-world problems and what we as individuals are really looking for in our next HMD, neither.

As you say @KlodsBrik (and as been said in the Pimax thread), when it comes to the challanges it's all about the resolution and the demands on the PC driving the thing.

A 210deg FOV is what we have in real life!!! (unless you wear glasses in which case it's more like 190). Why on earth are start-ups setting that as a target in a headset now? they're really jumping ahead a generation or 2 at least. Unless they plan to compromise on detail (pixels per inch) which is what I'm hoping Oculus are going to focus on for CV2 (along with a moderate increase in FOV). I agree that FOV adds more immersion than does improved detail... but it's detail that makes everything more playable in VR (or usable in the case of a VR desktop or productivity program).

It seems FOV is the current marketing buzz and I think this is another example or marketing taking precedence over good design.

  • AntVR are doing another Kickstarter soon too, for the AntVR Mix (hybrid AR/VR). It will be at CES apparently.
