Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen - MMO with an "oldschool" feel
This is a game currently on KickStarter. First and foremost, it's a niche targeted MMORPG. Meaning it's not trying to appeal to everyone like a game like WoW. I can attest to the woes of such an approach myself, as WoW failed to appeal to me with its lack of a focus on an audience. This MMORPG is either for you, or it isn't. Simple as that.
So what is this game? If you know what EverQuest 1 was, you could say it's a spiritual successor to that. It's made by the same project leader as the original EverQuest and its first 2 expansions. Additionally it's packed with many veterans on staff from that and other MMORPGs.
Pantheon will provide challenge where other games would provide "EasyMode".
It will be group based and community focused, where other games would be solo heavy with linear "questing on rails" through quest hubs.
While PvP is a stretch goal – likely a set of servers – this will be a PvE focused game (for once!!!!). This game is primarily about working together with other people, not fighting against.
I could go on and on, but you should just check out the KickStarter instead. Plain and simple, if you liked/loved EverQuest 1 or Vanguard, this is worth your time to check out.
If you haven't played those, and if you've tried playing some of the many MMORPGs around and they all just seem to easy, unsocial, and run of the mill or a WoW clone, then this is something you too should take a look at.
Finally, since this is this forum/website, I'll provide the answer to this burning question right now. They have no particular plans to support the Rift or VR right yet, but are open to consider it later. Personally I'll say it makes sense because this MMORPG is still in its first trimester. It just started the planing and basic development a few months ago, and probably won't be ready for 3 more years. That's plenty of time for VR to go mainstream and convince them to hop on board and invest resources into supporting it properly.
