Please help, cannot get my DK2 to power on...

Hey guys, Just received my rift on thursday and was excited to try it out, except I cannot get the display to power on. The rift is detected and I can see it in my monitor list but I cannot select it .

I have tried 2 different video cards (R9 270X, and GTX 770), neither would allow me to extend or duplicate or even just select the rift to display. Both did detect the rift ...

The light on the positional tracker is on, as well as the light on the top of the rift (the orange LED). I feel like I am either missing something really stupid or my unit is broken :(.

  • First, were you able to update the firmware (under advanced options)?

Many people are having problems with systems with multiple monitors. Try disconnecting one of your monitors. Make sure that both the Rift and your remaining monitor are both attached to the graphics card (the same card if you have more than one).

Then, if the firmware has been updated, go under Tools/Rift Display Mode and select "Direct HMD Access from Apps".
Make sure the Rift is turned on. In direct mode, the light will remain yellow until you run an application. On the main screen of the Oculus Configuration Utility, click on Show Demo Scene. You should now be able to see the demo scene both on your monitor and also on the Rift.

Edit: if the above does not work, please provide more info on your configuration. Do you have both cards installed? If so, try removing the AMD card and work with the GTX. People seem to be having fewer problems with Nvidia cards.

Also try moving the USB connections to different ports.
  • Thanks for the pointers...I fiddled with it for a bit and found that switching to different USB ports got things working (although I remember doing that prior...I still had not tried putting both USB inputs into the USB3 ports I have...).

Whew! I was worried I would have to send it back in and wait for another unit!

    Thank you!
