  • Short answer : Yes, the same CV1 desktop configuration specs apply regardless of that screen size.

Stupid answer : The same CV1 desktop configuration specs apply even if you unplug your TV while using your CV1 :P

HOWEVER be aware that as far as non-VR gaming on a 40+ inch monitor goes, those huge 40+ inch TVs have a few game frames worth of latency built-in them (sometimes a LOT, even the most expensive ones), which even their best latency reducing "game mode" won't help remove.

So if you're into twitch games, you might want to buy yourself a zero latency monitor, which last time I checked didn't and couldn't go above 30 inch.

Also an oversized gaming screen might do you more harm then good : You should make sure you can see the whole screen without having to move your head around, so if you value your response time and your neck, don't go putting your nose on a 60 inch screen for your TV gaming :)

You should use more descriptive title to get more eyeballs.

I think some people have reported issues related to HDMI bandwidth when using 4K monitors in specific configurations though.
  • I won't delete this, but I'm moving to the lounge.

In terms of HDTVs, the size shouldn't matter to the specs (aside, obviously, from being bigger). If you want to watch movies, or play normal 2D games (like on a console). the bigger screen is definitely cool. I use a 115" projector for my HTPC and PS4 and it's awesome.

It should not make a difference in terms of using the Rift, unless you have a lot of monitors/TVs connected (like 3+) or they are super high resolution (like 4K+), due to bandwidth limitations.
  • i didnt know there was a lounge where u would be allowed to post non oculus related stuff, ill post here from now on.
none of you answered my question i just want to know if the tv specs are the same if the sizes are different but the model number is the same.i want to get the best 3d tv only for the 3d.
  • I haven't seen much about that TV in particular, but typically companies will release one product line with the same exact features, only in a few different sizes. So I don't think the size should make a difference.

One thing to keep in mind is that this is a FPR/passive 3D display. Active 3D (i.e. shutter glasses) do give a better picture quality. With FPR passive, you lose half the vertical resolution due to interleaving the rows of pixels and the "sweetspot" for a low-ghost/crosstalk image is small. There are advantages (typically a brighter image, lighter/cheaper glasses, less eye strain, etc.) but for pure picture quality, active is better.

Whether active or passive is better overall is debatable, and some people prefer one over the other. Just be aware of the difference when you make a decision.
  • appearantly the sizes did make a difference. the sony (KDL-42W800B) has passive 3d while the 50 inch model had active 3d.

One thing to take note of though is the signal pass-through latency of a TV is nowhere near as good as it is on a quality monitor.

The more electronics you put in your signal path the higher the latency and some of these TV's have all sorts of pre and post processing units installed in them.
