Question I would like all to input into. . Do you think that bad voice-overs can ruin a game?

And.. do you think there needs to be more advertising in the gaming community for actors who have - good voices and can actually act..
I think a lot of developers just use their receptionists for female voices and their janitor for the male voices.

Thoughts?

  • Of course it makes a difference. Imagine the same part read by Charlton Heston and Gilbert Godfried. Play the core calibration game in The Lab and listen to the voices of the various cores. Very effective at eliciting a reaction in your head. Funny too. The voice characters are used to achieve an effect. The outcome will be different in each case.
What does "a bad voice-over" mean? How bad we talkin.
A nasally-sounding singer can ruin a song or make it a piece of art. Some covers suck and others are better than the original.
Gotta take each case one by one.

obtw whats with all the acting q's

I'm talking a feminine woman, with a manly female voice.
Or the best one, a western american man with some foreign accent. I get that a lot
  • What about Resident Evil 1? Bad voice acting made the game better.
  • No.

Totally agree with cyber - me and the wife still laugh about "stop... (wait 5 seconds), don't open that door"
