cool! found another one.. this one gets far out. - PeejleExplorerI've followed Kurzweil since his book The Age of Intelligent Machines. A truly brilliant guy.
His books are required reading for anyone involved in our industry, especially The Singularity Is Near.
I'm on my second read through of How to Create a Mind. Excellent if you are interested in how the brain works and possible ways to recreate it artificially.
I think he would be endorsing the Rift by name if he wasn't now working for Google.
Peejle - AnonymousThis is VERY interesting. I have dipped in to the Kurzweil koollaid at times and read some of his books.
He says that virtual reality will be big over the short term (up to 5 years away). You know that the only reason he would be saying that is if he were aware of the Oculus VR revolution. I - Anonymousi watched a video from 2011 where he talks about VR , i'll find it.. i suspect he didn't know about oculus back then, maybe he was onto the MTBS forums looking up palmer's posts, but i doubt it! very interesting dude, i like hearing about all the predictions he has said, and that have come true. here's another good one.

Yeah that 2011 video is really interesting, thanks for sharing that also. So 2 years ago, he was saying we would have realistic VR within 10 years. He said it would involve beaming light into our eyes from glasses. I think this Kurzweil prediction is turning out pretty well. ;)
He says that within 20-25 years, we'll have nanobots in our brains handling the VR. - cyberealityGrand ChampionKurzweil is awesome. Read a few of his books. Amazing guy.
I really hope his predictions for VR come true. It would be nice to get full immersion within our lifetime. - blazespinnakerHonored GuestHis interest in VR is actually as a place to upload his brain to before he dies.
I tend to agree with him, VR HMDs, ODTS, are all cool... if your brain hasn't disintegrated. Now if we could properly map the brain and upload it to solid state, that'd be awesome.
I remember reading this great short story about these 'astronauts' who upload their brains into a VR space on this micro sized spaceship. Pretty cool.. - LindblumExplorerI fear the singularity more than I can embrace it. New technology is always exciting, until you start realizing the terrifying ways governments will inevitably use it.
- mstdesignsHonored GuestI am mostly concerned about the nanobots requiring surgery. That turns people off including me. If you can enter them via your nose and detach them completely when turning off the machine like the "Playstation 9" commercial shows, then we should be good. If they are always inside your body and just software detached then a big NO. Imagine being hacked and transfered into a VR hell by a lunatic
- whoisonlineExplorerthis guy gets it .. he's got one hell of a crystal ball.
