Ready Player One - Dissapointed !

Before I get burnt to a cinder.... The book was great. I am surprised I had not come across it earlier.

BUT ..... come on in the entire book not a single mention of the Amiga ...... disappointing in the extreme.

sure the C64 and PET got a mention ... but still.

The Amiga was a seminal 6800 platform sporting a vibrant demo scene via the use of the custom blitter chip.

I wont get on my soap box regards the Amiga..true multi tasking years before other platforms ... must stop now...

  • The ending was rushed, no real conclusion to the story. It was a decent read though. Not enyirely sure about tge full haptic emersion rig.. but thete is some decent insight.

As far as the "metaverse", this is kind of how I forsee it going.Kind of like Sony's all access pass, but one character per person, moveable through different "modules/games".
PS: my spelling sucks when I'm typing on a phone.. badly.
  • Not real cyberpunk in that is was so solidly rooted in 80's as one major part of the story plot.

Really showing my age here but so much of that popular culture was so cringe worthy, It was so my generation... don't know the authors age wouldn't mind betting he was born in 1970 or with in 5 years of it.

In one way it did shed some light on the excitement around the merging computing scene. I remember my cousin had a Sinclair ZX81 with a whopping 4 k ram expansion (held in place with a rubber band)

I must admit i got a kick out of a reference to an Australian band called "Midnight Oil" and one of their songs "beds are burning" I grew up on the Northern beaches of Sydney, one of my high school mates had them as the band for his birthday these guys were reasonably popular in OZ, we all thought it was pretty epic at the time (his parents must have known them in some way)
