Research with the Oculus

Hello Developers! I am currently working towards a university grant to do research into the correlation between Virtual Reality, video gaming and dreams. I am working with a reputable doctor of dream research at my university and we need participants who are interested in participating in this exciting research.

Throughout these studies we generally defined the hard core gamer as someone who:
1. Plays video games on average several times a week,
2. Typical playing session more than 2 hours
3. Played 50 or more video games over their lifetime, and
4. Been playing video games since grade three or earlier.

These games are required to be played on the Rift to establish consensus. My professor just bought a DK2 kit but we would like to start to get information on interested participants who could work with us from around the world.

You will also be required to keep a dream log for a period of time. Not very time consuming, and you get to be more engaged in your video gaming!

If this fits your description and are interested or know anyone who is interested please pm me! ^.^

  • Very interesting project.

I am also a dream researcher (http://www.forbes.com/sites/parmyolson/2012/11/08/saying-hi-through-a-dream-how-the-internet-could-make-sleeping-more-social/ and interested not so much in the relationship between gamers and dreams but in dream logic and orientation. I would like to see the effect of falling asleep wearing the Oculus (if not horribly uncomfortable--will need to position the pillow correctly I assume) and running a more realistic program (such as Jerry's Place: https://share.oculusvr.com/app/jerrys-place; will this affect dream content? Also, upon waking up in the simulation, how will the dreamer adjust to the setting--will the sleeper believe she is still dreaming, become faux lucid, slowly orient to the real situation, etc.?

If you or your professor would like to contact me, my email is plainlabelbooks@gmail.com.

    Regards,

    Daniel Oldis
  • UPDATE:

Working in the lab everyday with participants. Almost getting to the end of the in-lab portion and then I will be ready to write up the study!

I still need a lot more participants for my online study that anyone around the world can do! The link is in my signature and all you need is an Oculus (any model), play video games (I assume you love video games as much as me!), and that you dream! (which everyone does)

Check it out down here! Thanks so much! ^.^
  • Interesting, however, I haven't had a dream caused by gaming in the Rift yet. At least, none that I can recall.
  • I'm interested in the use of an Oculus to incite lucid dreams. Wondering if any research is available.
