Should I buy a quest 3

Sorry I know that’s a very open ended question. Quick synopsis for people. I hired a quest 3 late 2023, and I really liked it. Had a **bleep** ton of games to play as installed by the rental company.

At that time I couldn’t warrant purchasing one financially. Now I’m in a better position.

But the tech is getting on now.

I did read an update come out a few months ago my that overhauled a lot of bug bears people had. Is the tech still worth it? I would likely do some pcvr stuff on my mid tier gaming laptop. But not a lot. I heard whispers about the quest 4 coming soon. That’s what is putting me off a little. I would like to hear people’s thoughts

  • Oh absolutely, let's gather the United Nations, NASA, and the Ghost of Steve Jobs so we can all help you decide whether to buy a headset you already know you like. I mean, you hired a Quest 3, loved it, had more games than you could shake a virtual stick at, and now you're financially ready… but yes, let's put this monumental life decision to a public vote like it's the VR Brexit.

Sure, the tech is "getting on" - all the way from late 2023, which in VR years is basically the Stone Age. Next thing you know, the Quest 3 will be displayed in museums next to floppy disks and Nokia bricks.

And yes, the mythical Quest 4, whispered about in dark taverns by travelers and YouTubers who "know a guy who knows a guy," could drop tomorrow… or in 2027… or never. Hard to say.

But hey, if you want strangers on the internet to validate your purchase like we're your financial advisors, emotional support animals, and tech prophets rolled into one, I’m here for it.

So here’s my official verdict: If you liked the Quest 3 before and you can afford it now… buy the Quest 3.

If the Quest 4 appears the next day, you have my permission to shake your fist at the sky dramatically.

I'm a bit biased, but in my humble opinion, I think it's currently the best VR headset on the market by quite a bit. It's a stand alone mobile device, you don't need to setup base stations, you can plug it into your PC via a USB link cable to do PC VR, it's got great hand tracking support, the price point is really good for the quality you get, it uses inside out tracking to automatically detect your play area and ground plane, it supports pass through, onboard mic and headphones, great FOV, no fresnel effect from lenses, etc. If I were you, I'd take a careful look at your budget and what you want to do in VR and do a comprehensive comparison between all the headsets out there and then decide from there.
