Should I use RAID 0 or not with my SSD hard drives?

One drive in a raid0 malfunctioning will cause the other disk's data become useless as well. The chances of either of two drives malfunctioning is twice as high as with just a single drive setup. Raid0 is a bit too fragile for my tastes, I'd set them up in raid1 instead, you won't have twice the space, but you won't lose anything if one drive fails either.

Unless you're really desperate for the extra space and keep backups / system restores close by.

Concur, Raid 1...

Switched to an SSD myself, much, much speedier than using 2x raptor drives in raid0. Boot to useability times are almost non-existant now.

All depends on the entire bus you reading from and if there wont be a bottleneck. A SATA3 bus should be able to handle two high end SSD's.

A decent single SSD should be more than sufficient for most peoples needs reading/writing at 500mb/sec+

Anyway, ive used 2x 250gb ssds in raid 0, and i didnt had any problems with CF. Though i switched to a single 500gb ssd in the end.

Got 2x128GB SSD Raid 0 here (ASRock H87 Pro4).
Not for performance, just to have 1 "big" hdd as system drive.

Absolut no problems so far.
I don't see any difference in performance compared to 1 single SSD.

No problem assuming you are making backups on a regular basis - if it is a gamer pc with no important data on it, go for it. If there is anything you would like to keep on the pc, make backups, backups, backups. If one disk fails, all is GONE. That easy. ;) reminds me, i have to go to a seminar in two weeks and hear about data recovery from ssd's - will be interesting.

If you have enough ram, i can recommend the samsung 840ies with their cache software - i get 1GB read and write per second in benchmarks, in single disk operation without raid 0. ;)

I have to agree. I never use RAID 0. Pretty much all it is good for is making a larger partition out of smaller drives though it also gives a speed boost but depending on your controller, since they are SSDs, you may not see as much as with a slow drive. But two drives in RAID 0 doubles the risk of failure and loss of all data as kietto says.

I also prefer RAID 1 for two drives. Same read performance as RAID 0 for the most part but full data redundancy.

If you are going to put your OS in these drives, I'd go RAID 1. If you want just a big space to store ripped CHIPs reruns, RAID 0 might be fine. SSDs should be more reliable until you start hitting wear out (takes a long time but enable SMART drive monitoring) so if you want lots of space you might consider just having two separate partitions. One for OS and the other for data and such. But obviously no redundancy.

Raid0 on SSD is a little overkill for my taste

I say 1 SSD for the OS, one SSD for your games/engines

and 2 regular HDD on a dual disk enclosure to put your important stuff. (pictures, documents etc) Usually, I end up bringing one of these drive at the bank in my safe just in case a fire or burglar and buy another one... one is a copie of the other one.

You should only go for RAID0 if what you're running on both drives could be lost with no consequences. In other words if you have everything backed up and imaged out so that if one drive fails (and thus the RAID 0 array, leaving the other drive inoperable until you reformat), it would not be a big deal to do a quick restore.

But if you're already going to that trouble, might as well just do RAID0+1, but that required 4 drives.
