Unfortunately, kinda inevitable. Money talks. And with the consolidation of giant Internet ISPs in the US, it's not gonna be pretty. Hopefully, Europe will stand taller against that kind of nonsense, but I'm not holding my breath.
  • I saw this today and wanted to puke. They can spin it all they want, but it all ends up just stripping people of their freedom. I sincerely hope America doesnt end up at fault for the downfall of the Internet as we know it. Bandwidth caps are hard enough to stomach, this is just ridiculous. As far as ramifications for Oculus, now that they are owned by Facebook i'd say they're in good shape.

You are right, money CAN talk, but I remember this VERY rich Egyptian empire, they are gone, and this very RICH Aztec empire, they are gone, and this very rich ROMAN empire, also gone, and back about 800 years ago this RICH English king trying to oppress my ancestor Braveheart! And while they did kill him young, their tyranny fell soon afterwards!

Then there was this very RICH Spanish armada, gone too, then the English Armada that dominated the planet. gone, they even came to my ancestors in colonial USA and said MORE taxes baby and them boyz said you can have your damn tea and its taxes and tossed it all into the harbor! Oh no my friend, I am not going to let you sell that defeatist attitude that HISTORY has proven time and time again MONEY may TALK, but often times even those with the MOST MONEY get their azz handed to them by the meek of the earth who have heard ENOUGH of money talk and are ready to shed some blood to refresh the tree of liberty!

    TLDR - Quitters NEVER win.

Vader was STRONG, the emporer too, UNDEFEATABLE! They kicked the whole jedi councils ASS and beat fuggin YODA too!

But this guy didn't quit, he wouldn't give in, he never gave up! And the emporer was BESTED! You are not going to kill my hope EVER!

Indeed :) It's all about building a complete monopoly. And not very sound foundations as far as economy, trade, and technological development goes, if you ask me. Remember AOL? How nice it turned out to be.

The thing is, if they proceed ahead, restricting user freedom and choice by pricing out or blocking competitive products, other ISPs *should* be able to fill the void with more competitive, flexible packages.

However, unlike the good old days, This time they are also shutting down all avenues (Google, small ISPs) aggressively. And not just at service level, but also at the infrastructure level. It's all coming together. Time Warner + Comcast merger, and now this. It's all deliberate and part of an overall strategy of dominance and control. Talking about anti-trust and monopoly laws, where are they?

Also keeping in mind that Time Warner et Al. are also strong advocate of SOPA / PIPA type bills, while not being all that bothered about user privacy.

I think we'll need a bigger puke bucket.
