There is one kinda VR related series I would like to recommend, but by doing so I would be giving a pretty big spoiler about the series.

    The anime is:
    Scrapped Princess
  • @mdk: That one looks good. I will check that out next.

I just started watching Accel World. So far, so good. Really liking it. It's not SAO but still cool.

I have to thank cybereality for that one. I watched in entire series in about a week after he recommended it. I saw a couple of episodes of Ghost in the Shell back in the VHS rental tape days (I may actually own it, not sure, many hundreds of store-bought VHS tapes from before my kids grew up all packed away in storage along with thousands of CDs)... All the other anime series listed here I have only in my future... I know nothing about SAO, so I suppose that should be next when I get some time...
  • Accel world is a lot more shallow than SAO. A few good ideas with being mobile and fighting on the go. It's tough to imagine someone whipping out their rift on the street when someone challenges them to a duel tho....

Perhaps Gabe Newell's direct to brain system could be made less intrusive than a headset, like Google Glass.

The mobile premise makes sense in Accel World though. It's based on more improbable sci fi elements, where as SAO is a bit more realistic sci fi.

It was funny for me. I didn't realize SAO and Accel World were written by the same guy until I finished AW. I thought it was weird that part way through the series they refer to and show a pic of Nerve Gear.

But yea. Imagining that with the Rift is weird. Might make a funny meme, though I don't know a caption off the top of my head. But maybe something like 2 people standing in a McDonalds in full VR Gear (Rift, some gloves and mocap balls/suit) looking like their ready to slap fight each other. Come on! Someone make it happen!
