The Cafe Scene From Nolan Film Inception

Here I am thinking about possible ideas for VR experiences and time and time again I keep coming up with the Cafe scene from the Christopher Nolan Film: Inception.

For those who do not know of the scene, here it is:

I can imagine sitting in the chair and looking around and the very act at looking at something will cause it to change, rotate, flip or explode in super-slow motion.

I can imagine looking at tall buildings and watching them rotate above me and folding and unfolding the landscape as you look at it to create surreal landscapes that are forever changing.

For me, this would be one heck of a VR experience- putting on the Rift, going into the virtual world in the Inception VR demo, then you go into another layer of VR, then another layer...Until you are 6 or so layers deep until you forget which layer you are currently in. :o

Perhaps I should start learning Unity.

Oh and apparently Nolan used REAL explosions and REAL folding sets to create that cafe scene.
Something tells me Nolan+VR=Mindmetling experiences.

I would love vr-recreations of different scenes from Roger Cormans E.A.Poe adaptions, like the one with the pendelum from "the pit and the pendelum": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPG92YqKx5A

Oh wow- yes I can imagine laying there watching the pendulum swinging lower and lower- I wonder how many people will scream when they see their virtual body being sliced?

Yep great idea, I considered the inception idea too and thought it would be cool to access the dreams within dreams by putting on a rift in the game and then in the next level putting on another rift .. Rinse repeat.
  • VR recreation of movie scenes is what I dream about :) There are so many of them I would like to experience.

    Examples:

Jurassic Park T-Rex Scene | Inside of car POV
Inception Cafe scene | Sitting on chair POV
Hobbit 2 barrels in river scene | In barrel POV
    Gravity, well whole movie :)

    and much more...

Funny you should mention Edgar Allan Poe. A couple weeks ago, I started storyboarding a steampunk VR re-imagining of this old classic animation of the Telltale Heart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flKOtXC4oyM

In the VR steampunk version, the narrator will be a robot. Not sure if I'll ever have time to put it into production, but it sure would be a really fun project to work on.

Sounds intresting. I really love that story. The thing with Cormans films is that the quality of the colours, the specific actors and environments, creates a particular atmosphere that would take quite an effort to recreate in VR. I hope you will continue your project!
