The Future of VR.. in 1991 + 1985

Those HUGE HMD's looks so funny. Great find.

I remember having a go in one in the early-mid 90s, would have been around 10 at the time.

Just added a video from 1985.

I am finding information on old VR systems really interesting, it shows how far tech has come and also how much Oculus been inspired by past efforts.

Good old Dactyl Nightmare. That was my first experience with VR back in 1993.

Never seen one here in south Italy but I've always drooled on the magazine Ads, especially after watching The LawnmowerMan, too bad for $90,000 (almost double that with today's inflation)a unit I couldn't afford it :-P
I got revenge when I beta tested the dk2 remake before it came out on the share at the time, if you can still remember,

Similar price but with the VFX-1 for me in 1995/96, 10,000 Italian Liras for 15 minutes use, both with the sitting experience (Descent, Ef2000 and Flight Unlimited with the old CH Hotas) and standing with the cyberpuck and the Aura Interactor (Lucasarts' Dark Forces), too bad I couldn't afford to buy that either for 1 million and a half Liras (about €1'700 with today's inflation), even though my then Pentium 120 could have powered it...

I hope Palmer is secretly making a lightfield capture of the room where he's keeping his 50+ HMDs, I'd really like to visit it in VR, after the Heckler & Koch Grey Room obviously :-)

Would be cool to make a Rift app that emulates those old headsets.
