The ugly history of strapping screens to our faces

i love all the old VR things...... virtuality brings back fond memories.. powered by an amiga too :)

Finally VR has stuck however and this time i do not think it will die.

it is fair to say erganomics have come a long way, comparing some of those hmds to the far more pleasing rift and psvr.
(and hell even the vive)

All of those are funny, but even still, my rift is still uncomfortable at times.  I have to have the side straps completely undone like I have a head shaped like one of the Aliens from the movie Aliens.  Even with the straps undone, over time the rift makes me fatigued because the damn thing is putting the sleeper hold on my head the entire time.  I do not have a large head by any means.  It's bearable enough to play games.  But because of this, I can not believe how many people want to do desktop work in their HMDs.  I personally think it would SUCK to do production work with these uncomfortable boxes strapped to your face.  When I am doing designs in Solidworks, I'm spending hours in the program, I like to be able to look away from the screen.  I just see it as shoehorning VR into a place it's not needed.  And Comfort is the main problem for me.

I bet your head could fit in the bubble helmet!

This quote is the best description of the Virtuality system I've seen. The article also make some odd omissions but still sort of interesting. Thanks for posting, I must have missed it when it was original published.

I found it a bit odd that, after cataloguing a variety of antiquated HMDs, the article concluded with a Daydream phone holder as the pinnacle of VR headset design. Um, okay, never mind the actual good current-gen commercial VR systems?

Yeah, many of us noticed this - seem the writer did a bit of "Google Research" and did not fact check. 
Some of us on another forum have reached out to them to try and get them to fill in the bigger omissions like VPL - but I think the writer may feel embarrassed and just keep his head down.  B)
