U.S. jury awards Apple $539 million in Samsung patent retrial

It looks like Facebook-Oculus aint the only ones wearing the Patent Naughty Pants these days,

After nearly five days of deliberations, a U.S. jury on Thursday said Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS) should pay $539 million to Apple Inc (AAPL.O) for copying patented smartphone features, according to court documents, bringing a years-long feud between the technology companies into its final stages.

When I first read this, I was going to make a case about this hampering Samsung's bottom line, thus potentially harming their advancements with VR. However, half a billion dollars really is chump change for these two giants, aint it?

Tbh I'm surprised that Samsung haven't 'done a Facebook' and appealed it rather than paying a good chunk of change leaving them $140m to pay. I would have appealed it out of spite and then paid the money in pennies lol :p :D
  • They did 1 appeal when this all started which is why the amount isn't higher. And they still have the option to appeal this verdict. However, things seem to be finally settling with this ordeal.

I guess we know how Apple plans to fund their True 8K VR HMD, now! lol

The 8K VR headset from Apple is just a daft rumour. I'll only believe it once it happens, and let's just say that I'm not expecting to believe that anytime soon.
