Userscript for Wider Forums

I'm used to forums being really wide and filling most of my screen, so the current theme here feels way too small for me. I made (read - cobbled together from various internet sources, since I don't know javascript) a userscript that changes the width of the forums to be much wider, and optionally moves the avatars over to the left side. Tested and works fine in Firefox 15.0.1 with Greasemonkey 1.6, and Chrome version 24.

There are two versions - one with the avatars on the left (expandoculus.user.js), and one with them on the right (expandoculus-rightavvy.user.js).
You can also edit the script and change the variables near the top of the file to change the proportions and width of the forum. By default, everything is set so you can just barely see all of a 1280x800 image on a 1920x1080 screen.

To install in Firefox, first install Greasemonkey, then go to any webpage and drag the downloaded script onto the window. Click install.
To install in Chrome, go to the menu > Settings > Extensions and drag the downloaded script onto the window. Click install.

Tell me if you like it or if there are any problems with it!

Good job, but why not edit the forum skin itself or create an alternative skin that's a copy with these fixes. It beats having to run extra JavaScript on every page.
  • I run Chrome 26 they didn't change anything, however hold down the left ctrl and use the mouse wheel to zoom in to full screen works for me..

    regards.

I suppose I could, but then I'd have to go bug my co-worker to make a new theme, and he's really busy, so... that would be the better solution, though.

Huh... I tested it on Chrome 26 and it did work... but only when logged out. Huh. I guess I'll see about fixing that sometime.

New version, in case anybody is interested. Now works correctly on Chrome and Firefox.

    Fixed:
Script sometimes failing depending on whether you were logged in to the dev center
