VR Van - Kickstarter idea.

Outfit a van full of virtual reality tech & take it on a tour of Britain, attending shows & events for people to try out different VR. Just trying to do my part to promote VR.

  • I think its a good idea. I already see a lot of mobile video game/arcade trucks driving around now. I dont see why your idea couldn't work.
  • Thanks for your comment, based on some of the response I gotten to it I was starting think I was mad for ever thinking of this idea, but will stick with it and see if it come to anything.

My question is who would hire you to come to demo VR? Companies would hire agencies to design VR apps for them - the running of the event would be part of thir service.

And charging money to show other people's applications (like a sort of mobile fun fair) might be a tricky proposition without their express permission/paying them a share. (Also have you checked with Oculus whether Rifts may be used for this sort of commercial purpose?)

If you do it off your own back (funded by the kickstarter) then you'd probably be okay - but I'm unclear as to where the money comes in ongoing as a business idea.
  • Well firstly its looks unlikly the project going to get any where. :(

Who would hire me? Well I was thinking maybe people who are doing parties, small events and shows where they would like an extra activity to be there. this was always just a extra part of the business that I could promote whehn on tour.

Main aim was just to promote VR and give peope a chance who have yet to play with the tech to have ago, as I dont see that many shops or locations that VR will be there to try out.

To attend an event I recon cost would of been at least £800+, For stand/location, fule, staff, and other other ongoing costs. To keep the business going would of been to sell the Magazine, VR phone headsets, VR systems orders, and maybe charge for extanded try out goes on VR at the events. Your right it would be a tight business to run, but it more a passion project any way. I might still try and promote VR with my one unit and in my car and go to a few events just was hoping to turn the idea into more. never mind.
