Where to go to demo an Oculus Rift?

Question

Hello everyone,

I'm considering using the Rift for a robotics project next year but I've never experienced one. It’s hard to understand what it’s like using one just watching videos online and I’d like to “kick the tires” before purchasing (pre-ordering) one. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to find someone or somewhere that is doing demos? I live in southern Maryland and live really close to Baltimore and Washington DC. I’ve been hoping to run across one at a conference or something but nothing has come up yet. Is there anyone around here that has one that would like to show it off? Maybe a hackerspace or something?

I guess I’m just anxious. If I could order one and have it in a week I would, but August is such a long time away! Even if I did pre-order one now I would still be interested in seeing a demo in the mean time.

i made a case for 20$ using ebay, free shipping and some local parts

it uses a phone or tablet for a viewing window and magnifying lenses for letting you see the dual images similar to rift but much less awe insprigin

Thanks JA, thats awesome that this map exists. I did luck up and find an oculus at AUVSI in orlando last week though. Parrot had one setup streaming video from a quadrotor: http://spectrum.ieee.org/automaton/robotics/aerial-robots/parrot-bebop-drone. Although it was just using the feed from one camera so I wasn't getting the full effect with stereo, it was enough to show me how nice the rift maps the video to your eyes very nicely. I'm sold!
