Why is the EFF picking on Oculus?

How are they picking on Oculus? Just because they use the same symbol? You do know there's a lot of groups\companies including a tv show that uses that symbol to right?

Barath those EFF guys at the link seem REALLY CONCERNED about NSA issues - with almost 4 thousand other companies/sites going to try and fight back and stop the abuse on February 11. So for those claiming I am the lone gunman xfiles conspiracy nut, seems I have a little company. I wonder if Oculus the company will join the EFF February 11 initiative to criticize the erosions of all our rights by a select few?

You do know Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir, was part of a group that helped fund our open source HMD hero? Palmer assures me Lonsdale left those guys, and is probably disgusted how the J. Edgar Hoover type spooks took what was lonsdale's gift to humanity to do good and perverted it for evil. In fact I am sure Lonsdale was so disgusted, he has done everything he can to tear apart the J Edgar Hoover types (like flynn taking down encom), wreck his former company that is now being used to spy on everyone planetwide (like paul atriedes in Dune wrecking his own legacy), and has brought all kinds of lawsuits against the government for taking his Palantir Technology into the dark halls of power that is now used for evil. Can anyone point me to any lawsuits Lonsdale has brought against the US Government for perverting his technology and gift to the planet to do good since he is so disgusted with how the technology is used? Perhaps he thinks snowcrash ravens out there are real threats in our vr futures and must be monitored and controlled, and that is a real concern perhaps needing to be considered. Noory and Alex Jones were just on coast to coast saying Iran has all kind of sleeper cells in the USA and we will turn that whole country into nukular wasteland if they activate those sleeper cells. So maybe Lonsdale is doing what he thinks is best, but how much VR liberty do we all trade to have this 1984 scenario? I am not against certain compromises to live in a VR snowcrash future, but not when the NSA types have all the keys to the kingdom and you and I are pretty much kept in the dark (for our own good) because it just invites too much abuse of power that is too heavily concentrated.

I took great pains to keep myself anonymous online under various psuedonyms and anonymous proxies and such, somehow Palmer found out my real identity and real name, abuse of palantir technologies? Someone commented on here when a very young picture of Palmer was posted (I think with his mom - mr. green posted it I believe) that it was VERY CREEPY people were digging into Palmer's past and history like that, but no one thinks it creepy that Palmer digs into my real identity when it should have been made clear I liked being anonymous, what gives? Or that Palantir Co-founders who are DISGUSTED with what is happening NSA wise (but not disgusted enough to sue the government I guess) are now associated with our dear open source HMD hero and his technologies rob us all of dignity (I don't like to be watched by NSA people while I listen at pink floyd and beat my meat), rob us of privacy, rob us of rights that many good soldiers and citizens gave thier lives for the past 200 years (and thousands of years going back to Jesus and before) to make sure Lonsdale Palantir type stuff is not put on us all. My father was one of those military people fighting for freedom (he thought) so I hate to see all his sacrifices go up in smoke for nothing like some here don't seem to care.

As I told you in another thread, you registered on this forum using an email address containing your full name. You are not trying very hard to hide it.

Imagine if I signed up on a forum using palmer.luckey@oculus.com, would it be creepy or surprising when they know my real name? Probably not.

I can only speak to my own experiences, but at least in my case the news has really turned me off to these companies. A year or so ago I turned down an offer from Palantir due largely to privacy and ethical concerns, and since that time every single instance of Palantir showing up in the news has made me think to myself "Man I'm glad I didn't take that offer." I suspect I am not alone in my desire to make the world a better place through hacking and technology. Then again I also suspect that there is some set of less scrupulous engineers out there following the dollars. In that case I would guess that the effect of this kind of publicity is polarizing, but not in a single direction.

It was great to read your post, I helped a kid called Palmer Luckey 4 years ago with VR HMD ideas. He took my help and others and has now took funding from Joe Lonsdale, coufounder of Palantir, and I lay awake at nights at how has this happened? This cool open source kid that we all liked selling out to the darkside of people like lonsdale and In Q tel, why couldn't he be MORE like YOU? When he realized it was Palantir Types throwing the money at him, I wish he could have been a cool jedi like you and said no thanks, I don't want your money, you may have good objectives at heart Palantir, but there is just too much negativity about stuff like you guys do and I don't want any part of it. That you had ethical and moral character that I see lacking in Palmer Luckey makes me still have hope in mankind.

LOL! I am deeply Sorry! There I go sticking my foot in my mouth again and chomping like pacman. Well thanks Palmer for your efforts on my behalf, you are a far more gracious person than I feel some top executives possibly at other companies would be. None of us are anonymous in this era though, just not possible. I am not anti-oculus (I don't want cyber moving back to New York unemployed), even though I am being critical at every chance, it is playing devil's advocate to keep you guys out of a group think echo chamber. I have conceded on a choice between you guys and Valve (even with lonsdale) or sony or msft VR solutions, I am going to use your solution, because it is far more opensource than them. I am going to keep an eye on you guys though and still call out everytime I see something that doesn't feel right.
