Windows 10 rant

Upgraded to Windows 10 since windows 7 doesn't really cut in when it comes to VR etc. Not my favorite thing to do, usually takes me months to get everything installed and working like before (thousands of plugins and programs to reinstall.)

Some quick obeservations;

* Quick Access. This is now worthless, i used this all the time in Win 7 for my different projects. Now you can no longer rename anything in Quick Access, so now i have 6 folders named "textures" and 7 folder named "audio" + a few other folders who shares the same names. They've even managed to make it so dumb that if you create a renamed shortcut for a folder - guess what, Quick access will rename it to the original folder.. 

* Still no "always on top" for windows? For a OS called "windows" it's really lacking in the windows area. How long have users asked for this, 15+ years? How hard can it be? No surprise that it wasnt fixed.

* Larger fonts in high resolution - still totally worthless since you will mess up the interface for tons of programs, the fonts will be too big (for its window/box) and it will be a mess. Got to stick to 100% (on a 34" in 3440x1440) and the fonts are sometimes really super tiny (in Cubase it's to the degree that it's bordering to unreadable).

Good things:

Seems like Search at least works  (one of the most important features for an OS imo) in Windows 7 this was a pain, had to use third party programs for it to work properly. Not sure how they could mess that up, but they did..
 
Tried to think of something more but.. meh, it's like windows 7 made worse apart from perhaps a cleaner interface and hopefully they managed to fix their search function.


TL;DR

Does anyone know if there's a way to change font sizes on the fly (like in web browser) that would kind of solve the issue with programs sometimes not working proplerly if you set font sizes above 100%. I bet MS didn't care to implement something like that though, lazy as they are :/

Any way to fix the Quick Access, as in making it possible to rename folders there?

    No more taskbar transparency, can't rearrange order of email addresses in Mail, can't insert files to the start menu like a quick note text file or to-do list, doesn't automatically connect to wifi for me despite having certain wifi set that way, can't turn off windows update or defender despite desperately needing battery power on my laptop. Before i learned how to disable it, i would find Windows Update running in the background while my wifi was off and while in airplane mode and also while on "metered connections". Oh, you have to change each connection to metered to prevent update from hammering fragile public wifi spots. I once found update having stealth downloaded in the background a massive 300mb update it on a metered connection and i had been having trouble connecting to the internet at that wifi all morning. WTF. Which means everyone else at the busy coffee shop probably did too, because of me.

    So many little deficiencies and issues for me. As i no longer appreciate the new start menu and prefer the "pinned" programs list in the Win7 start menu, i believe THE ONLY thing about 10 i like is the more battery efficient media player, which is fucking horrible beyond that. I highly encourage everyone who reads this to be punishingly careful in your future microrsoft purchases. This is not the passionate Bill Gates Microsoft anymore i don't believe. This is the lets make sure we pry as much money from our fellow citizens as possible and give as little as possible typical "business". They want to play hardball to the point of being immoral and parasitic, play hardball then...

    @Thane_ you can actually pin a .txt file to the taskbar, i did that recently.. but yes, it's disappointing and especially so when you know that Microsoft aren't exactly so poor that they couldn't invest the time or the money and make it so much better.. I wish i could just give it up for something else, but there's that thing with support in other OS'es, unfortunately..

    Oops, i meant Start Menu, sorry. I used to have a quick note txt file as the first pinned menu item in my start menu in 7 to quickly jot down random things and store a to-do list. I agree, it would be nice to have some alternatives full support for gaming. With Windows 10's proposed "gaming mode", it might help the situation, i've been wanting a mode like that for ages.

    I could not care less for the visual aspects or themes, what does it do besides that? the video was basically changing the background and having a black theme, pretty lame.

    Then you didn't understand what the guy is telling you, StartIsBack changes win 10 to look and work like win 7

    yeah he said something really quick about the start menu and taskbar (which i have no problem with) the rest of the video is about him changing to a "cool theme"..

    Does it really fix more advanced stuff like the Quick Access functionality?

    Which Font? Just CTRL and scroll wheel to change web browser and word pad size
