78.1028 Neverending Update Loop

What’s up with 78.1028? I can’t get my MQ3S to update. It tries to download, oddly wants to restart to apply update at the 90% mark, restarts, and then does that again, and again, and again, and again, and again…and now it’s like 1000-degrees of heat…and trying again, and again. What’s up Meta? Relying on interns and AI pair programmers again?

  • Not sure if this is a red herring, but in case it may be helpful, on Software updates my current version registers only as the build (78) and I can't see any sub-number (1028, 1032 etc.)

However, as before, I am getting updates and I'm able to game.

  • I tried the update on my MQ3 without the sideload.  What was different was it went straight to 80% and sat there not moving. After 30 mins I rebooted as thought it was stuck. It then announced that the update had worked.

I am able to do updates now, but as the arrival in gametime cause gaming timeouts (v. annoying) and I am out of warranty I am thinking that a terminal version with no updates may be an idea/option - in case some future update makes it unusable.

  • I had the same problem.  I didn’t mean this to fix it, but at some point my battery drained completely.  Update was successful the next time I started up the headset.

I noticed the size of the update file has changed to 105Mb, so I just tried updating again and it "worked", but it still says I'm on v78.1027 but now I am "up to date". So at least the update loop has gone.

  • Same problem here. Updated to v78 on a Q3....blank screen after reboot...tried your sideload update same issue....device is not operational...it was before the update!!!

My MQ3 is operational - so commiserations as you have a worse situation than me.

Hi there steve_40, thank you for your reply.

We can see that the update tool seems to have fixed the issue now, could other users in this thread also confirm if this has worked for them?

We look forward to your reply!

I updated from within the Settings menu of the Q3 headset, not using the web-based update tool that requires a PC. Since then, another update (v78.1030) became available, which seems to have installed without any issue, except that my headset still claims to be on "v78.1027", which is not the correct version number.

Yup I'm having this problem on a Q3.  The update tool didn't work.  Factory resets didn't work. I hope they fix it.

Having same issue.  The Quest update tool states that the update was successful, but after rebooting the headset, there still appears to be an updating loop where rebooting does not apply the update.
