Accessibility Request: Add Dwell Click (Gaze-Based Interaction) Support to Meta Quest

Dear Meta Accessibility Team,

My name is MO SHIYANG, and I am a Meta Quest user with cerebral palsy. Due to my physical condition, I have difficulty performing standard click actions with controllers or hand tracking gestures.

For accessibility, I strongly request the addition of Dwell Click (also known as Gaze Click or Dwell Selection) to the Meta Quest system. This feature allows users to select UI elements by simply resting the pointer or gaze on them for a set amount of time, without pressing any button.

This interaction method would make the Quest platform much more inclusive for people with limited motor control, including those with disabilities affecting hand movement. Many VR platforms already offer Dwell Click as an accessibility option, and adding it to Quest would help make immersive experiences more accessible to everyone.

Thank you for considering this request, and I hope Meta can continue to lead in making VR accessible to all users.

Sincerely,
[MO SHIYANG]

Dear @rainne90, Mo Shiyang. I think that the present Quest devices would need to have eye-tracking available on the device but I don't think it exists. I have heard they are looking at introducing eye-tracking on future devices. I'm not a VR headset expert but maybe there are some headsets with eye-tracking available.  I think you are definitely entitled to have this kind of option. I'm just not sure the Quest has the hardware available to use Gaze Click. Also advice, for your security, don't share your personal email on this public forum. I wish you luck and you can get what you need .

no,I mean when the pointer stays on an app icon, it automatically opens without needing any button press or hand gesture.I am able to raise my hand and point with the controller, but I am physically unable to press a button while maintaining the pointer position, and I also cannot extend a single finger to perform a click gesture.

I understand what you mean now. Ok, I think that is something they should definitely do, and it just needs software. I did a little research and found this article on possible suitable controllers for you, including one specifically for people with cerebral palsy. It might be that some of these can be adapted to the Quest. There is an x box controller specifically adapted for cerebral palsy people. It may very well work with your quest. Here's the link to 12 different options.
