Adding User to Quest 2

My Son got a headset for Christmas. He does not have a FB account so it is under my name. We would like to add an user account for him we generate the 6 digit code enter it in on the mobile device. Says connected. Then get the error message to try again. We have attempted this multiple times with the same result.

  • How to add users to your Meta Quest. I finally figured out how to add my children and spouse to my Meta Quest 2. After 3 months of frustration at not finding an answer in the forums or actually getting any kind of response from Facebook aka Meta at all. I now have the solution and am sharing and posting it for ALL that have found themselves in this situation. What is not posted anywhere (that I have found) is when you try to add a user from the headset using the code that is generated on the www.meta.com/device website from your PC or phone, it always returns an error. The solution is as following.

    1. using a PC/MAC go to www.meta.com and create a new account for your new user using their email

    2. verify the account from the email received.

    3. log into the new meta account on the PC/MAC

    4. go thru the steps on the headset to add user and generate a code.

    5. open a new tab on PC/MAC while still logged into the new users account and go to www.meta.com/device

    6. enter the code from the headset.

    7. there should now be a successful message and the new account should be on the Meta Quest.

I hope this solves the problem so many of us have had. Why FB and Meta cannot find a way to let their users know what they need to do to add users is beyond me!

Hey there tdog1717! So you know, a Facebook account is no longer required to join in the World of VR. It's possible to add and use multiple accounts on a single headset, while the account used to setup the headset will always be considered the primary account, you can add up to 3 secondary accounts to the Quest 2 headsets to play games, and app share.

How to Change the Primary Account:

The only way to change the Primary account on a Quest headset is to Factory Reset the headset, totally wiping everything from the headset, and use the new account to setup the headset. If you perform this, please be sure to enable Cloud Backup so you won't lose all your data.

    How to Add Secondary Accounts:

    1. Press the Oculus button on your right Touch controller to pull up your universal menu
    2. Hover over the clock on the left-hand side of the universal menu. When Quick settings appears, select it to open the Quick settings panel
    3. Select Settings in the top-right corner, then select Accounts
    4. Select Add account in the top-right corner
      • If you don't already have an unlock pattern set up for your headset, you will be asked to create one before adding additional accounts to your device
    5. Select Continue, then hand the headset to the other person to add their account to your headset. They will be guided through the initial setup, including logging in to Facebook, adjusting headset fit and setting up Guardian.

    Limitations of Secondary Accounts:

While secondary accounts will still be able to buy, install and use apps and games much like the primary account, there's some key limitations one will encounter when using a secondary account.

    • Secondary accounts cannot connect to their Oculus account on the Oculus mobile app, meaning they won't be able to use features such as Casting (only to the app), File Transfer and anything else that requires the Mobile app.
Secondary accounts cannot share their apps to other accounts on the same headset.

If you continue to have any issues with a secondary account addition after following the above steps, please Submit a Ticket and we'll be able to assist further within that platform!

Why can't they share? What's the point of having families using a headset if they have to repurchase apps for everyone?

They can share apps, the reason to have a seperate account for each member, is to 1) not let everybody have access to the primary (owners) account and be able to spend money on apps, or change core settings or delete games and screw up the things in general. 2) it allows each player to keep their own progress in games and have their own personalized setting for each game. However as the root primary user the  parent figure can allow all or some games to be shared with all users.  So NO you dont have to buy or install the same game for each player!

Hi there Grymm96! We have a few questions for you so we can get a better understanding:

        • What are you trying to livestream on?
        • What game are you trying to livestream?
        • Is it PCVR or standalone?

What's the exact error? On mine it says something went wrong for adding another account, and that the headset is already used for App Sharing (not true). This implies Meta is blocking it or something is broken on their servers.
