We know this isn't an ideal situation and we can appreciate your concern with factory resetting. Before you try that last-resort option, we'd suggest using our Software Update Tool to force an update onto your headset first!
Please make sure your headset is fully charged before you use the tool. If that doesn't work, your only option may be to factory reset as prompted. Naglis is right, though - all of your purchased apps are tied to your account, so you won't lose those! However, certain apps may have automatically backed up your progress. You can find out what apps are supported by Cloud Backup here.
