Can I connect my Quest 3 controllers to my Quest 2?

I have Quest Pro Controllers that I have been using on my Quest 2 (Great!!)
I purchased a Quest 3 and will be moving the Quest Pro Controllers to it.

I would like/prefer to pair my Quest 3 Controllers to my Quest 2 Headset.

Currently this is not an option to select in the App.

Are there any plans to allow Quest 3 Controllers to work on a Quest 2 (similar to how the Pro Controllers work on Q2)?

What would be the reason to not allow/support it?

Thank You!

  • Currently, there is not a way to do this the Meta Quest Pro controllers and the Meta Quest 3 are the only ones that are compatible.

      Right...

That is why I am asking if they will add them as an option to the app/pairing in the future.
When the Quest Pro Controllers were released as individual purchases, they were not support/able to pair to the Quest 2, but Meta resolved those issues.

I am just hoping and wondering if Meta can/will do the same to make the Quest 3 Controllers compatible/pairable with the Quest 2 headset.  There certainly doesn't seem to be any technical reason it wouldn't be possible... and for those that use Quest Pro Controllers... it feels a waste to have Quest 3 ones going unused when they could be an upgrade to the previous Quest 2 Headset. 😉

      Thanks!

I personally think the reason why the Meta Quest 2 and Pro as well as the Meta Quest 3 are not compatible is because of the difference in the controllers overall physical and internally. However, there is no information if this will be added in the future or not.

However, you can provide this in our Idea forums! Or maybe someone in the community has done this before with the Meta Quest 2 and pro controller's and can assist!

I really wish there was more I could provide you with ðŸ˜•

  • I also hope for this.  My wife would like to use these new Quest 3 controllers with her Quest 2.  The new Q3 controllers are just going to be wasted not being used at all otherwise.

  • I don't know for sure, but I think it's not physically possible. Again, I don't have any information directly from meta, and maybe they will allow it. But I think they can't as the quest 3 has its improved ai, witch could come to the quest 2 with a software update. But the quest 3 also has a depth sensor, and the controllers are designed to work with that I'm sure, again, I don't know, but it makes sense.

Cut the corporate bs I know y’all are just being greedy as hell or lazy as hell with this controller support… either way I’m sick of this s*** my warranty on the quest 3 was denied because the damage done to my headset wasn’t valid I guess, even though it’s literally a f’ing warranty and y’all gotta be so greedy you won’t even let older generation headsets pair up with new generation controllers? Come on and just make some f***ing support for this s*** this lack of support over controllers is simply unacceptable if the previous story wasn’t unacceptable enough. Let’s get this fixed before these problems start to spread word around the internet and people start getting sick of these bs problems, yeah?

we need the firmware of the quest 3 controllers to be updated so the they work on the quest 2. you did it with the pro controllers....

  • So will it ever be possible to pair quest 3 controllers to a quest 2 headset?

  • I think that there was a decision to not support this due to differing camera angles and firmware to support both.  The pro controllers manage their own positioning and processing for that matter which allows this to work without issue on the quest 2 and 3.  Hopefully someone from Meta can offer a conclusive answer, but as I said there are some technical and financial reasons why they would choose not to unfortunately.  Good luck!

The thing is the quest 3/3s use both the IR readers and infrared but the quest 2 does not support infrared but if they put in a software update which would allow the quest 3/3S software to ignore the infrared for the quest 2 controllers

It would be cool to see Meta add quest 3 controller support to the quest 2

Yh I would love for that to happen, since I want to test the quest 2 to the quest 3, but unfortunately my quest 2 controllers have really bad stick drift so I'm unable to use it and the quest 3 are my only working pair left.

  • I have the same issue my quest 3 had a meltdown from the c connection where you charge it from the port and since I didn't buy the better warranty cause of money issues at the time. (Also I didn't know I could add it on later) But my Oculus 2 controller is drifting but I still have my quest 3 controller just sitting there that I can't use.
