Cannot fix my birthday

I have a facebook, instagram and VR account, all linked under my name and email. My twelve year old kid sometimes uses my Oculus VR account and somehow he changed my birthday there to a random date in 2002, which is neither mine nor his birthday.

Not only that, but somehow my linked Facebook and instagram accounts have been automatically updated to this incorrect birthday. So, now people have wished me a happy birthday on the wrong day on Facebook, and nobody say happy birthday to me on my actual birthday.

Obviously I’m not a 23 year old parent of a twelve year old. I’ve tried changing my birthday back on all the platforms, in the Meta account centre etc,  but I always get the same message that something went wrong and to try later.

Well, I’ve tried many times over three months, to no avail. I don’t understand why one mistake in one platform can override my real birthday in all other accounts, or why I can change this back. I’ve followed various directions how to change the birthday, but none of them work. This is beyond frustrating.

Have you tried editing your birthday in Meta Accounts Centre? It's super easy. I presume this account governs all the associated Meta sub accounts.

I would suggest not to have your Facebook and Instagram etc accounts linked to your Meta account. You will find a lot of people posting in these forums who can't log in to their Meta account because they got banned (by AI) on one of their linked accounts, or one of their linked accounts got hacked somehow, and then the hacker was able to mess with their Meta account.

I have tried to edit my birthday in the Meta Accounts Centre. That was the first thing I tried. Every time I try, I get an error, and they tell me to try it again.

How can I unlink my Meta Quest account from my Instagram and Facebook? My kid is the one who used Meta Quest the most, but since he isn't 13 until next year, I cannot give the account over to him.

The error when trying to edit your birthday might happen if you haven't added a payment method to your Meta account. I think Meta uses your Credit Card details to verify you are an adult (when I set up my account, Meta never asked me to upload any ID). Important: after adding a payment method, you might still get the error for two or three days until Meta has verified your payment details. If this still doesn't fix your problem, contact MetaStoreHelp and send them a direct message (click the link, then click "Message" in the top right of the screen).

Make sure to set a store PIN so that nobody can make unauthorized purchases using your account.

You can unlink your Facebook and Instagram accounts in Meta Accounts Centre.

This is what I see if I click the "Add accounts" button:

So from the same screen, you should be able to remove these accounts.

Once you get your birthday problem sorted out, use the Family Centre to add your child's profile to your headset as a parentally controlled account. To find Family Centre, click the hamburger (|||) menu in the Meta Horizon app on your mobile phone. More info here.

I buy all the games using my account and use the App Sharing feature of the headset to share the games to my daughter's secondary profile on my headset.
