Cannot setup child account

I have setup my parent account etc.

I'm trying to setup my 11 year old, have provided the correct DOB and username.

Next page it requests a payment method to confirm I'm an adult.

I have tried 4 different cards and it will not accept any of them.

I'm in the UK.

Trying to get the headset ready to go for Xmas day!

Is there another verification route?

Help please.

Thanks

  • Hi DeimosHuntsโ€‹ ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you tried adding your payment method on the web page instead of the app? Tab on "payment method" on the left bar.

A few days ago, a user found an interesting solution to this โ€“ unfortunately common โ€“ problem.

He was able to add a payment method using the headset

      Thanks

The issue isn't setting up a payment method on my account. I can do that without issue.

The issue is proving that I'm an adult when setting up a child account.

After entering the child's age and username etc.

It request I enter card details to prove I'm an adult it's at this point it fails.

There is no other option to prove my age to get past this point.

Tried it on phone, horizon app, computer and within headset.

      All fail.

  • Usually, it uses the existing credit card (if you have already added one) and charges 99 cents to it. It takes about 3 days to verify the card and, in the meantime, you will simply get a vague "something went wrong" message until the bank has cleared and refunded the 99 cents.

Yeah, that might be the issue, since he just set up his account.

Must be complicated to give out a message like "wait for the verification of your card"

      instead of "something went wrong"๐Ÿ™„

  • Thank you both, fingers crossed it works before Xmas day.

Worryingly I spent an hour on whatsapp with support, confirming I'd already done everything they suggested, and not once did they mention this.

Bit of a shambolic system, surely there must be a way of verifying there and then rather than wait 3 days following a misleading message!

Yeah, it's not good, they should know about that and be able to tell you.๐Ÿ™

steve_40โ€‹ has experience with child accounts..... I think he nailed the issue.๐Ÿ‘

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and your child.๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿ™‚

  • It seems that the system does not always process children's account settings correctly. Errors appear without explanation, and the instructions seem too general. This makes it difficult to understand whether the problem lies in regional restrictions, age rules, or the service itself.

  • Thank you all.

Support were able to do something in the background and I was able to finally setup my child accounts.

    It's a Christmas miracle ๐Ÿ™Œ.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

      Thank goodness! ๐Ÿ˜…

I got my daughter a Q3 for xmas so we can play games together. I already had a child account set up for her on my Q3, but I had some troubles setting up her account on her own headset! Kept getting errors when trying to add her profile via the headset or phone app. Finally, I used the option to send an invite by email and sent it to myself. I opened the emailed link on my PC and it launched the auth.meta.com website. I tried adding her profile through that page and it worked! ๐Ÿ˜„ Except that, when I went to log on to her headset, her profile appeared twice in the selection menu! I suspect that despite giving me an error message, the phone app must have actually added her profile to the headset without me realizing. So I logged in to one of the profiles and set up the headset, installed games etc, then I thought I would simply delete the duplicate profile. Unfortunately doing so deleted BOTH profiles, so I had to go through the process all over again (this time only one copy of her profile appeared on the headset) and set up the headset again from scratch. Now it's all good and we are both happy campers. ๐Ÿ˜…

steve_40โ€‹  Life was easier  when you just had to plug in some game console on Christmas and all were happy๐Ÿ˜‚
