Can't change/edit my Horizon Avatar

Hello, I'm experiencing a frustrating bug in Quest 3: In Horizon Worlds, I can no longer change or edit my avatar (my in-game character)! Even when I'm looking in the mirror in my home apartment, the edit button on the right side of the window doesn't work... nothing happens. Restarting Quest 3 didn't help, and neither did clearing the cache. I've already submitted a bug report several times, but so far, no solution.

Have any of you encountered a similar problem, or do you have any ideas on how to fix it? Or do I just have to wait for the next update and hope it works then?

  • Try editing your avatar using the Meta Horizon app on your mobile phone. I had an issue a while ago where the in-headset editor kept crashing, but using the phone to make changes to my avatar fixed it, and now I can edit within the headset without issues.

  • Thank you ! I've tried that, but it doesn't fixed the problem within the headset... :(

  • Same thing here for about a week. I have restarted, hard rebooted, unpaired/repaired controllers, cleared AI data, cleared world data, checked for software updates... you name it. I have tried everything I have been able to find to possibly fix it... nothing has worked. 

    I've sent two request for support and heard back nothing.

    Finally, today's Google search says it is a known issue... "Unresponsive avatar edit buttons on your Meta Quest 3 are a known issue, possibly due to a recent software glitch or update. The issue of being redirected to Horizon Worlds instead of avatar options is a separate but also frustrating problem." Although all Google searches over the past week have not given this information, I guess it now has accumulated enough reports it's showing the information.

    I do know they have rolled out a new update since V81, but not to everyone. I have not had the new update show up as available on my quest 3. Since support requests seem to go into an abyss never to be seen again after submitting, my best guess is it has something to do with updates.

    Even though I haven't had the lasted update sent to my device, I saw the format of viewing details on apps/games in the store has changed... and that timing does correlate to when I could no longer edit my avatar. 

    It would be nice that a company would atleast send out statements when something has happened and things aren't working as they should and they're working on it... Instead of crickets and never replying to help request. Leaving customers, who spend Alot of $$$ on these devices and apps, etc to finally find out on reddit or some other Google search that it isn't just their device, but rather a known problem...

      Get used to it. The only reason I am so active in these forums for so long is that the Meta software is so buggy and this is the only way to keep track of the current issues.

      My avatar mirror seems to be working though. Same for the avatar editor in the Worlds menu. I did have a glitch in the past (maybe 2 months ago) where the button on both the avatar mirror and the Horizon central portal would randomly disappear. That bug seems to have been fixed, at least on my headset 🤷‍♂️. Not everyone gets the same software at the same time, so maybe the fix hasn't been rolled out to you yet.

  • Everything works fine again ! There was an update from Version 81 to Version 83...now they fixed it...

  • Initially after getting the latest update my editing avatar feature returned to normal too. But, last few days the editing is not working normally. I've not been able to turn the avatar to see what logos, etc might be on the back of clothes/shoes. It won't turn at all. When adjusting a color, ex: hair, it doesn't change as I adjust like it always did before. I have to stop in a random place, wait for a loading circle to spin for it to maybe make the adjustment. Or, maybe not, with my avatar disappearing and a "something went wrong" message. Like yeah, something has been going wrong one way or another for atleast 2 weeks now. Anyway, was just wondering if anyone else is still having issues with the avatar?  

  • My girlfriend and I share my 3 and while I am able to edit and see my avatar on the right to make changes and edits , i switch to hers and her avatar doesn’t even show up on the right but I can edit and make changes , exit out and look at her avatar and it will take a few seconds then show updates on what I changed. It’s frustrating to say the least because mine works as it should

      So, I have two profiles on my Quest 3 too, but don't have that issue.

      Maybe try this. Go to your girlfriends profile directly after starting the headset. Go not on your profile first. Perhaps the switch between the profile causes this bug?

      If this doesn't work you can try if removing and adding again your girlfriends account might help.

      Switching between profiles can cause glitches and eats up memory. Try pressing the sleep button, then wake the headset up, it can sometimes clear the glitches. Otherwise, reboot the headset, and avoid switching between profiles.
