Child accounts bypassing downtime by changing device clock/timezone

As the title states my niece and nephew being the smart kids they are have found a way past device downtime. They know their devices shut off at a specific time every night and they have limited play time through the day. So they roll their headset clocks back. Make it AM instead of PM. Etc. their account is managed and supervised and all provisions are set for their age range as well.

I created a test child account on my own meta quest to verify what type of settings access is available and lo and behold they have access to 70% of general device settings. If it doesn't fall under interactions or purchases it's fair game.

This is a major security flaw in the family management system and should be able to be changed. Certain apps can be blocked with a pin. But not settings.

Here are my thoughts/ideas for remedying this situation;

A parent should have to set a pin up to add a child account to the meta quest.

Or a child should only have access to the basic quick launch settings only.  (Wifi/Bluetooth/brightness/airplane mode/ etc.

Is this something that is able to be investigated?

  • Report the issue in the headset itself under Quick Settings>"Report problem".

    You could also raise a new issue in the Developer Feedback Center.

    Limiting important headset settings, like changing the time zone, to only the parent account would be a sensible fix. Nintendo Switch does it like that.

    I've sent a bug report in my own headset, but the more reports that Meta gets, the better.

      I appreciate this! I have reported this on all 3 of their devices and my own. Hopefully more people get the same idea. But I'm really really saddened at the fact that Facebook/meta spouts all this "family safety" and such but can't actually keep the kids devices safe. Their interactions are safe sure. But their device safety is another story.
